IS HAIR TRANSPLANT PERMANENT?

At Radiant Dermatology & Aesthetics, the most common question we hear is, "Does hair transplant last forever?" The answer is YES, most hair transplant patients experience permanent results after undergoing a procedure.

Our professional team is dedicated to helping you better understand what is involved to ensure you have realistic expectations, making it easier to decide if a hair transplant is right for you.

HOW IT WORKS

After the hair follicles get grafted into areas where hair is thinning, the skin will need several months to heal. Within the first few weeks following the procedure, it is normal for some of the hair to start falling out, signaling the beginning of the hair growth cycle.

It can take up to a year for most transplanted hair follicles to fully grow, eventually producing long-lasting results. Over time, the volume will increase to provide a fuller-looking appearance.

Once the hair transplant is complete, the follicles remain permanently in place and cannot be returned to their original location on the scalp. As the patient ages, the transplanted hair follicles will continue to grow. However, much like the rest of your hair follicles, the transplanted hair has a lifespan and will eventually stop producing as much hair as it used to.

TYPES OF HAIR TRANSPLANTS

There are two types of hair transplant procedures:

  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): Involves manually extracting and harvesting each hair graft, making small punctures in the scalp to transplant hair follicles taken from multiple parts of the scalp.
  • Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): Uses a strip of hair follicles from the back of the patient's head, transferring them to areas of hair that are bald or thinning.

SmartGraft™

At Radiant Dermatology & Aesthetics, we use SmartGraft™, a FUE procedure that provides natural-looking results to help viable candidates regain their youthful appearance.

SmartGraft™ combines cutting-edge technology and precision craftsmanship to deliver faster and more precise results than other FUE methods. The procedure does not involve cutting or sutures and is a premier choice for men and women looking for a permanent hair loss solution. However, while SmartGraft™ does not involve a scalpel, it does involve a circular punch tool.

It is important to note that despite SmartGraft™ being a minimally invasive procedure, scarring may occur.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR HAIR TRANSPLANTS?

Any person with a healthy donor location (usually on the posterior of the head) is a viable candidate for a hair transplant. The donor area must have an abundance of rich, healthy hair follicles deemed appropriate for transplant purposes. A good candidate is also someone in good overall health.

Typical candidates for a hair transplant include individuals experiencing:

  • Balding
  • Gradual Hair Loss
  • Receding Hair Line
  • Significant Thinning
